What does an Elementary Counselor do?
The School Counselor:
- serves all the students at a school and helps them be their best.
- can facilitate classroom lessons aligned with state standards.
- consults with parents, teachers, and administrators.
- provides materials to teachers and parents on topics related to the guidance and counseling standards when needed.
- connects families with school and community resources.
- talks with students who have a problem they'd like help to solve or have something on their mind they'd like to talk about.
- visits with students who could use care and support from an extra adult.
- counsels students in small groups built around shared needs.
- counsels students individually.
- teaches social skills and coping skills.
